Step 1: Compulsory Vitamin D Rapid Test

All patients accessing this service must first undergo a Vitamin D rapid blood test.

The test:

  • Is performed during your appointment

  • Provides an indication of Vitamin D levels

  • Helps determine whether supplementation may be appropriate

Supplementation (tablet or injection) is not provided without testing.

Step 2: Pharmacist Clinical Assessment

Following the test, a GPhC-registered pharmacist will:

  • Review your test result

  • Take a relevant medical and medication history

  • Assess suitability for Vitamin D supplementation

  • Discuss appropriate supplementation options

Clinical judgement is used at all times.
If supplementation is not appropriate, this will be explained clearly.

Step 3: Vitamin D Supplementation Options

Depending on the test result and clinical assessment, supplementation may include:

Oral Vitamin D Tablets
  • Provided where suitable based on Vitamin D level and individual factors

  • Dosing advice is given in line with UK clinical guidance

Vitamin D Injection
  • Considered where clinically appropriate following assessment

  • Administered by a qualified healthcare professional

  • Provided only after informed consent

Supplementation is not guaranteed and is not provided without clinical approval.
