Stop smoking support.
Structured. Evidence-based.

Structured quit programme combining behavioural support with NRT or medication. Professional help doubles your chance of quitting successfully. No referral required.

About smoking cessation

Why professional support works.

Stopping smoking is the single most effective thing most people can do for their long-term health. However, nicotine dependence is a genuine clinical condition — willpower alone succeeds in fewer than 5% of attempts. Structured support with behavioural advice and pharmacological intervention (NRT, varenicline, or bupropion) increases success rates to 25–35%.

Our GPhC-registered pharmacist will design a personalised quit plan, support you at each stage, and adjust medications as needed. The programme typically involves an initial consultation followed by weekly check-ins for 8–12 weeks.

Most effective approach: Combining a quit date, NRT or medication, and structured behavioural support gives the highest success rates. Our pharmacist will help you choose the right combination.
What’s included in the programme
Initial assessment

Smoking history, motivation assessment, and carbon monoxide reading. Personalised quit plan agreed.

NRT or medication

Choice of nicotine replacement (patches, gum, inhalator, spray) or prescription medication where appropriate.

Weekly check-ins

Regular consultations to review progress, adjust the plan, and provide motivational support.

CO monitoring

Carbon monoxide readings at each appointment to track progress and confirm smoke-free status.

12-week programme

Full 12-week support period. Most patients who reach 4 weeks smoke-free are successful long-term.

What to expect

How the programme works.

Initial consultation (30 mins — £50)

Your pharmacist takes a smoking history, discusses your motivations and previous attempts, and agrees a quit date. An NRT or medication plan is started.

Quit date and first week

The week immediately after your quit date is the hardest. Weekly check-in at the pharmacy. CO reading taken. Medication adjusted if needed.

Weeks 2–4: consolidation

Weekly support continues. Progress reviewed and behavioural strategies reinforced. Most cravings reduce significantly by week 4.

Weeks 5–12: maintenance

Less frequent check-ins as confidence builds. CO readings confirm ongoing smoke-free status. Programme complete at 12 weeks.

FAQs

Smoking cessation FAQs.

Which NRT products are available?
We stock a full range of nicotine replacement products including patches, nicotine gum, inhalators, nasal spray, and lozenges. Your pharmacist will recommend the most appropriate product or combination based on your smoking pattern.
Is prescription medication available?
Yes. Varenicline (Champix) and bupropion (Zyban) can be prescribed where clinically appropriate by our prescribing pharmacist. These carry a higher success rate than NRT alone.
What if I slip up and smoke during the programme?
A slip does not mean failure. Many people who quit long-term had earlier attempts first. Tell your pharmacist — the plan will be adjusted and the quit date reset if needed. We are here to support, not judge.
How much does the programme cost?
The initial consultation is £50 for a 30-minute appointment. Ongoing treatment and weekly check-ins are from £45. NRT products are available to purchase at the pharmacy. Prescription medications are issued as private prescriptions and carry a separate charge based on the medication.
