About blood testing

Why get a private blood test?

Private blood testing gives you access to comprehensive health panels without waiting for a GP appointment or fitting NHS-criteria thresholds. Many patients use private testing to get a baseline picture of their health, to investigate symptoms sooner, or to monitor a condition proactively.

All results are reviewed by a clinician before being sent to you. Your pharmacist can discuss results with you and advise on next steps, including GP referral where needed.

Results sent directly to you. Results are sent via secure email from the laboratory, after clinician verification, typically 24–72 hours after your sample is processed. A clinician-reviewed commentary is included.
Fasting required for some panels. Glucose, cholesterol, and full MOT panels require an 8–12 hour fast before your appointment. Water is fine. We will confirm fasting requirements when you book.

Common questions

Blood test FAQs.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?
Some panels require fasting, particularly cholesterol, glucose, full MOT, and liver function tests. We will confirm fasting requirements when you book. If fasting is required, avoid food and drink (other than water) for 8–12 hours before your appointment. Morning slots are easiest for fasting tests.
How long does the appointment take?
Blood sample collection takes approximately 15 minutes including registration and the brief clinical check. Allow a few minutes after for pressure application to the sample site. Results take 24–72 hours from processing, not from your appointment.
How will I receive my results?
Results are sent directly to you via secure email from the laboratory, after clinician verification, with a written commentary included. Your pharmacist can also discuss results with you by phone or at the pharmacy.
Can I share results with my GP?
Yes. Your results can be shared with any clinician. If your results indicate a concern that requires GP follow-up, your pharmacist will advise and can provide a summary letter if helpful.
What is the difference between a rapid test and a standard blood test?
Rapid tests, such as vitamin D, ferritin, HbA1c, CRP, and hs-CRP, are analysed on-site with a result usually available within 15 minutes of your appointment. Standard blood tests are sent to an accredited laboratory and take 24–72 hours. Your pharmacist can advise which option suits your needs.
