About flu vaccination

Why get a private flu jab?

Influenza causes significant illness each winter, particularly in older adults, those with underlying health conditions, and people who work in healthcare or busy public environments. The flu vaccine reduces the risk of infection and serious complications significantly.

The NHS flu programme covers certain eligible groups. If you are not currently eligible, or simply want protection earlier in the season. Our private flu jab is available from early autumn. No GP referral, no waiting.

Best time to vaccinate: September to November, before the flu season peaks. Protection develops within 2 weeks of vaccination. Book online or call us at any point during the flu season.

FAQs

Flu vaccination questions.

Who should get the flu vaccine?
Anyone who wants protection against influenza can receive the private flu vaccine. It is particularly recommended for adults over 50, those with long-term health conditions, pregnant women, carers, and people in regular contact with vulnerable individuals. NHS eligibility is narrower — the private vaccine gives access to anyone regardless of eligibility.
Are there any side effects?
Common side effects are mild and short-lived: soreness or redness at the injection site, a low-grade temperature, and mild fatigue for 24–48 hours. These are signs that the immune system is responding. Serious reactions are very rare. Our pharmacist will advise on what to expect and when to seek help.
Can I have the flu vaccine if I am currently unwell?
If you have a fever or acute illness on the day of your appointment, it is best to rebook when you are well. Minor colds and sniffles are generally not a reason to delay. Our pharmacist will assess on the day and will advise if rescheduling is recommended.
Does the flu vaccine protect immediately?
Full protection develops within approximately two weeks of vaccination. This is why autumn vaccination — before the flu season peaks — gives the best coverage. It is still worthwhile to vaccinate later in the season if you have not done so.
