About phlebotomy

What is a private phlebotomy service?

Phlebotomy is the clinical process of collecting a blood sample from a vein. NHS phlebotomy services often have significant waiting times. Our private phlebotomy service offers fast-access blood sample collection at a time that suits you — usually same-day or next-day.

We can collect samples for any of our own testing panels, or for tests ordered by your GP, consultant, or specialist. Just bring your blood test request form.

Bring your request form. If your GP or consultant has requested blood tests, bring your paper or electronic request form to your appointment. We can process almost all standard tests.
Fasting may be required. Some tests require an 8–12 hour fast. Please call us before booking if you are unsure whether your tests require fasting. Water is always permitted.

FAQs

Phlebotomy FAQs.

Can you collect samples for tests my GP has requested?
Yes. Bring your paper or electronic blood test request form. We can collect samples for the vast majority of standard GP- and consultant-ordered tests. If you are unsure, call us and we will confirm.
How long does a phlebotomy appointment take?
The appointment itself takes around 15 minutes including registration and post-draw pressure time. Results are sent directly from the laboratory to you and your referring clinician — typically within 24–48 hours of the sample being processed.
Do I need to fast?
This depends on the tests requested. Glucose, cholesterol, and some hormone tests require fasting. Please call us before booking if you are unsure whether your specific tests require fasting. Water is always permitted regardless of fasting status.
What happens if a vein is difficult to find?
Our phlebotomists are experienced in difficult venepuncture. Hydrating well before your appointment helps. If collection is not possible at a single visit, we will advise on next steps.
