Our GPhC-registered pharmacist can assess and treat six common conditions under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme. Free for eligible patients. No referral. Same day.
Direct NHS care with no GP appointment needed.
Pharmacy First is an NHS England scheme allowing pharmacists to assess and treat six common conditions directly — without the patient needing to contact their GP first. Your pharmacist can give clinical advice and supply treatment where appropriate, all in a single visit.
The service is free to any patient registered with an NHS GP in England. You do not need to be registered with a Sunderland GP.
What we can treat.
Painful throat assessed with a FeverPAIN or Centor score.
Blocked or painful sinuses lasting over 10 days, often following a cold.
Women aged 16–64 with uncomplicated UTI symptoms.
Contagious bacterial skin infection with sores and crusting.
Painful rash from chickenpox virus reactivation. Early treatment is important.
Bite site showing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus.
What happens at your appointment.
Book a slot
Book online via Halaxy or call 0191 503 4053. No GP referral needed. Same-day slots are usually available.
Symptom assessment
Our pharmacist takes a brief clinical history and assesses your symptoms using standardised clinical tools where appropriate (e.g. FeverPAIN for sore throat).
Treatment or advice
Where clinically appropriate, a prescription-only medicine is supplied under a Patient Group Direction (PGD). If more complex care is needed, you will be referred to your GP or urgent care.
Record sent to your GP
With your consent, a consultation summary is shared with your registered GP to keep your medical record up to date.
