Perimenopause or Something Else? What the Menopause Panel Checks
Written by the Veritas Pharmacy clinical team. Address: 113 Chester Road, Sunderland. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, registration number 9012617.
Hot flushes, disrupted sleep, mood changes, and irregular periods often get put down to perimenopause by default — and often correctly. But these same symptoms can overlap with thyroid dysfunction and other hormone changes, which is exactly why a targeted panel, rather than an assumption, gives a genuinely useful answer.
What the Menopause Panel checks
The panel covers five markers together: testosterone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinising hormone, and oestradiol. Testing these together, rather than in isolation, helps distinguish perimenopause and menopause from other hormone imbalances that can produce similar symptoms, such as thyroid dysfunction.
What to expect
A blood sample is taken by a trained phlebotomist, generally around fifteen minutes, and processed at an accredited laboratory. Results typically arrive within 24 to 48 hours, sent securely with a clinician commentary rather than raw numbers alone. If something needs attention, next steps are explained, which may include a consultation or referral to a GP.
