Every traveller aged 9 months and over needs a valid Yellow Fever certificate to enter Ghana, and malaria protection is essential across the whole country, all year round. What you need before you travel to Ghana.
Ghana requires proof of Yellow Fever vaccination from every traveller aged 9 months and over, under International Health Regulations. This proof comes in the form of an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, known as the ICVP or yellow card. The certificate only becomes valid 10 days after your vaccination, so this appointment should not be left until the last minute where possible.
Malaria is present across all of Ghana throughout the year. There is no vaccine against malaria, so antimalarial tablets are the main way to protect yourself. Our prescribing pharmacist will assess your health and itinerary to recommend a suitable option. Typhoid, hepatitis A and hepatitis B are also commonly recommended for travel to Ghana, alongside routine boosters such as tetanus, diphtheria and polio.

Malaria risk is present throughout Ghana all year. No vaccine exists, so antimalarial tablets are prescribed following a clinical assessment.
Recommended for most travellers to Ghana due to food and water hygiene risks.
Hepatitis A recommended for most travellers. Hepatitis B recommended for longer stays or higher-risk activities.
Considered for travellers with specific risk factors, such as rural travel, longer stays or higher animal contact.
Tetanus, diphtheria and polio boosters are reviewed and updated where needed.

Ideally 6–8 weeks before you travel, so any vaccines needing more than one dose have time to work. If your trip is sooner, contact us. Yellow Fever and most single-dose vaccines can often still be arranged in time.
Ghana-specific health assessment
Your pharmacist reviews your itinerary, how long you are staying, whether you will visit rural areas, your health history and current vaccination status, to recommend what you need.
Vaccinations and antimalarial prescription
Any recommended vaccines available on the day are administered at your appointment. Antimalarial tablets are prescribed if suitable for you.
ICVP certificate and documentation
Your Yellow Fever ICVP certificate is issued on the day, and your vaccination record is kept on file in your Halaxy account for future reference.
