Hepatitis B antibody titre test.
If you have completed a hepatitis B vaccine course, particularly for work, this blood test checks whether your body has built up a strong enough immune response. It is the evidence most employers and occupational health teams ask for. GPhC-registered pharmacist, no GP referral needed.
What the antibody titre test checks.
The hepatitis B antibody titre test measures the level of hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) in your blood. This tells you and your employer whether your vaccine course has produced a strong enough immune response to be considered protected. It is usually carried out around 1 to 2 months after your final vaccine dose.
The test itself is a single blood sample, taken by venepuncture (a standard blood draw from the arm). Your sample is sent to the laboratory, with results typically available within 24 to 48 hours.
Is this test right for you?
Particularly for work, where your employer or occupational health team requires proof of immunity.
Roles involving exposure-prone procedures or blood-borne virus risk commonly require this evidence before starting work.
If it has been some time since your course and you are unsure whether you are still considered protected.
Your pharmacist can advise on whether this test is appropriate, or whether more urgent medical assessment is needed.
