GPhC Registered 9012617 £49 Creatinine, urea, eGFR Clinician-reviewed result
About this test

How well are your kidneys filtering?

This test, often called a U&E (urea and electrolytes), measures creatinine and urea, waste products your kidneys normally filter out of your blood, along with your estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), a calculation that reflects how efficiently your kidneys are working.

This test is commonly used for general health screening, monitoring long-term conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes, or checking kidney function before or during certain medications.

Your result includes a clinician commentary. A clinician reviews your result and provides written context before it is sent to you.

FAQs

Kidney Function Test FAQs.

Do I need to fast before this test?
No, fasting is not usually required for this test.
What is eGFR?
Estimated glomerular filtration rate is a calculation, based on your creatinine level along with factors such as age, that estimates how well your kidneys are filtering blood. It is one of the main ways kidney function is assessed and monitored.
Can this test diagnose kidney disease on its own?
It provides important evidence, but a diagnosis is made by a doctor considering your result alongside your symptoms, blood pressure, and, where needed, further tests over time.
