About this screen

Six infections, two sample types.

This screen combines a blood sample with a urine sample, or a self-taken vaginal swab if you would prefer it, so that both blood-borne infections and the two most common bacterial STIs are covered in a single visit.

Markers tested: Chlamydia (PCR), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PCR), HIV 1 & 2 antibodies plus p24 antigen, Hepatitis B surface antigen, Hepatitis C antibody, and Syphilis (Treponema) IgG/IgM.

Your result includes a clinician commentary. A clinician reviews your result and provides written context before it is sent to you securely.
Price. £189 for the screen, plus a £35 phlebotomy fee for sample collection, charged per visit.
Prefer a swab to a urine sample? Let us know when you book. A self-taken vaginal swab is a suitable alternative for the Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea part of this screen.

Timing matters

When to test after a specific exposure.

If you are testing after a specific incident, testing too soon can give a falsely reassuring result. Each infection has its own detection window.

General guidance, confirmed with your pharmacist

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (PCR): generally reliable from around 2 weeks after exposure.
HIV (antibody/antigen test): generally reliable from around 6 weeks after exposure.
Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis: generally reliable from around 6–12 weeks after exposure.
Tested too early? Your pharmacist can advise on repeat testing based on your specific exposure.

Confidential appointment at Veritas

A brief consultation, followed by a blood sample taken by our phlebotomist and a urine sample or self-taken swab provided in private. Around 15–20 minutes in total.

Analysis at an accredited laboratory

Your samples are sent to an accredited laboratory. Processing takes 24–72 hours.

Results sent to you, in confidence

Sent directly to you via secure email, after clinician verification, with a written commentary. Your pharmacist can discuss your results and arrange treatment or referral if needed.

Female Advanced Screen FAQs.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?
No special preparation is needed. If a urine sample is being taken, it is helpful not to urinate for an hour or two beforehand, but this is not essential. No fasting is required.
Is a swab test as accurate as a urine test?
Yes. A self-taken vaginal swab is considered at least as reliable as a urine sample for detecting Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, and many people find it more comfortable. Your pharmacist will show you how to take the sample correctly in private.
Will this be kept confidential?
Yes. Your appointment, samples, and results are kept confidential in line with GPhC standards.
What if I am pregnant or trying to conceive?
Untreated STIs can affect pregnancy and fertility, so testing is often recommended before or during pregnancy planning. Let your pharmacist know if this applies to you, as it may affect advice on next steps.
What happens if a result comes back positive?
Your pharmacist will contact you and discuss your result in confidence. Some infections, such as Chlamydia, can often be treated by our prescribing pharmacist. Others may require referral to a specialist sexual health clinic, which we can help arrange.
