About this screen

Six infections, two sample types.

This screen combines a blood sample with a urine sample, so that both blood-borne infections and the two most common bacterial STIs are covered in a single visit.

Markers tested: Chlamydia (PCR), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (PCR), HIV 1 & 2 antibodies plus p24 antigen, Hepatitis B surface antigen, Hepatitis C antibody, and Syphilis (Treponema) IgG/IgM.

Your result includes a clinician commentary. A clinician reviews your result and provides written context before it is sent to you securely.
Price. £179 for the screen, plus a £35 phlebotomy fee for sample collection, charged per visit.
First-catch urine sample. For the most accurate result, we ask you not to urinate for at least one hour before your appointment. We will explain this clearly when you book.

If you have symptoms such as discharge, pain when urinating, or testicular pain, testing can usually go ahead straight away. Speak to your pharmacist for advice on timing.

Timing matters

When to test after a specific exposure.

If you are testing after a specific incident, testing too soon can give a falsely reassuring result. Each infection has its own detection window.

General guidance, confirmed with your pharmacist

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (PCR): generally reliable from around 2 weeks after exposure.
HIV (antibody/antigen test): generally reliable from around 6 weeks after exposure.
Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis: generally reliable from around 6–12 weeks after exposure.
Tested too early? Your pharmacist can advise on repeat testing based on your specific exposure.

Confidential appointment at Veritas

A brief consultation, followed by a blood sample taken by our phlebotomist and a urine sample provided in private. Around 15–20 minutes in total.

Analysis at an accredited laboratory

Your samples are sent to an accredited laboratory. Processing takes 24–72 hours.

Results sent to you, in confidence

Sent directly to you via secure email, after clinician verification, with a written commentary. Your pharmacist can discuss your results and arrange treatment or referral if needed.

Male Advanced Screen FAQs.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?
Try not to urinate for at least one hour before your appointment, as a first-catch urine sample gives the most reliable result for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. No fasting is required.
Will this be kept confidential?
Yes. Your appointment, samples, and results are kept confidential in line with GPhC standards.
Can this test detect throat or rectal infections?
This screen is based on a urine sample, which detects urethral infection. If you have had oral or anal sex and are concerned about infection at those sites, let your pharmacist know, as additional swabs may be recommended.
What happens if a result comes back positive?
Your pharmacist will contact you and discuss your result in confidence. Some infections, such as Chlamydia, can often be treated by our prescribing pharmacist. Others may require referral to a specialist sexual health clinic, which we can help arrange.
Should my partner be tested too?
If you test positive for an STI, current sexual partners are usually advised to test and, in some cases, treat as a precaution, even before their own results are back. Your pharmacist can advise on this if it applies to you.
