Rapid hs-CRP test
(heart risk screen).
The hs-CRP test measures very low, background levels of inflammation linked to your long-term cardiovascular risk, a different purpose to a standard CRP test, which looks for acute inflammation or infection. A small capillary sample, results in around 15 minutes, no GP referral needed.
Not the same as a standard CRP test.
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) measures the same protein as a standard CRP test, but at much lower concentrations, low-grade, ongoing inflammation linked to the blood vessel changes that contribute to heart disease over time. This makes it a useful addition to traditional risk factors like cholesterol and blood pressure, when building a fuller picture of your cardiovascular risk.
This is a different purpose to a standard CRP test, which looks for higher, more acute levels of inflammation from infection or injury. If you have symptoms suggesting an active infection or acute inflammation, the standard CRP test is the more appropriate option instead.
