Hepatitis A and typhoid remain relevant for most trips, and Japanese encephalitis is worth considering for rural areas or longer stays. What you need before you travel to Bali.
There is no yellow fever risk in Indonesia and no vaccine required for direct travel from the UK, a certificate is only needed if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk. Malaria risk in Bali itself is low to negligible, which is notably lower than some of Indonesia’s more remote eastern islands, so antimalarial tablets aren’t usually needed for a typical Bali holiday.
Japanese encephalitis is present in rural parts of Bali, particularly around rice paddies and areas with pig farming, and is worth considering if you’re staying a month or more or spending significant time in rural areas. Hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended for most travellers due to food and water hygiene, and rabies is worth considering given the presence of stray dogs and monkeys on the island, particularly around temples.
