India covers an enormous range of environments, from Himalayan mountains to tropical coastline, and health risks vary a great deal depending on where you’re going and what you’ll be doing. Typhoid, hepatitis A and malaria protection are relevant for most itineraries, with rabies and Japanese encephalitis worth considering for longer or rural trips. What you need before you travel to India.
There is no yellow fever risk within India itself, so the vaccine isn’t needed for your own protection. However, India requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you arrive within 6 days of having been in a country with yellow fever risk, including parts of Sub-Saharan Africa and South America. If your trip includes another stop beforehand, it’s worth checking whether this applies to you.
Malaria risk varies across India. It’s present in the states of Mizoram, Odisha and Tripura, and generally low risk elsewhere, including Goa and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where bite avoidance is usually sufficient. There is no vaccine for malaria, so antimalarial tablets are recommended where risk is present. Typhoid and hepatitis A are recommended for most travellers due to food and water hygiene risk, and rabies is worth considering given India’s high rabies risk, particularly for longer stays or animal contact.

Vaccinations and antimalarial prescription
Any recommended vaccines available on the day are administered at the appointment. Antimalarial tablets are prescribed if suitable for you.
Documentation and records
Any certificates you need are issued on the day, and your vaccination record is kept on file in your Halaxy account for future reference.
