Travel vaccinations
for Peru.

Whether you’re heading to Machu Picchu, Lima, or venturing into the Amazon jungle, Peru’s health risks vary considerably by region. Yellow fever and malaria both matter for jungle travel, but generally aren’t relevant for Lima, Cusco or the classic Inca Trail route. Our GPhC-registered pharmacist provides a full pre-travel health assessment tailored to your route, in a single visit.

Entry requirements and regional risk

What you need before you travel to Peru.

Yellow fever isn’t required for direct entry from the UK, but is recommended for most of Peru, excluding Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, and the classic Inca Trail route, where risk is considered low. If your trip includes the Amazon region or other jungle areas, the vaccine becomes genuinely relevant, and may be required for onward travel to some neighbouring countries.

Malaria in Peru is similarly concentrated in the Amazon and jungle regions, with low risk around the main tourist route of Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu. Typhoid and hepatitis A are recommended for most travellers due to food and water hygiene, and altitude is worth discussing if your trip includes high-altitude areas such as Cusco or the Sacred Valley.

Jungle add-ons change the picture. Many Peru itineraries combine the classic Inca Trail route with an Amazon extension. If yours does, yellow fever and malaria both become relevant in a way they aren’t for the standard tourist route alone.
Veritas Pharmacy is an approved Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. We can administer the vaccine and issue your ICVP certificate on the same day as your appointment, subject to clinical assessment.
