What you need before you travel to Thailand.
There is no yellow fever risk in Thailand and no vaccine required for direct travel from the UK, a certificate is only needed if you arrive from a country with yellow fever risk. For most short trips to popular areas, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Pattaya and similar destinations carry no malaria risk, so tablets usually aren’t needed for a typical beach or city holiday.
The picture changes for rural travel, longer stays, and time spent near the forested borders with Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, where malaria risk rises and some antimalarials face resistance in these specific border areas. Japanese encephalitis occurs countrywide with a year-round risk, peaking May to October, and is worth considering for rural travel or stays of a month or more. Hepatitis A and typhoid are recommended for most travellers due to food and water hygiene.
