About this service

Why test privately?

Many people choose private sexual health testing for speed, privacy, and convenience, rather than because NHS services are not available. Our appointments are discreet, judgement-free, and led by a GPhC-registered pharmacist.

Everything discussed and tested is kept confidential. Your results are sent directly to you by secure email, with a clinician commentary, and your pharmacist is available to talk through what they mean and what happens next.

NHS sexual health clinics offer free, confidential testing and treatment. If cost or access to a free NHS service is a concern, your local sexual health clinic or GP can also arrange testing. Our private service is simply a faster or more convenient alternative for those who would prefer it.

Timing matters

When to test after a specific exposure.

If you are testing after a specific incident, such as unprotected sex or a condom breaking, testing too soon can give a falsely reassuring result. Each infection has its own detection window, the time your body needs before a test can reliably pick it up.

General guidance, confirmed with your pharmacist

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea (PCR): generally reliable from around 2 weeks after exposure.
HIV (antibody/antigen test): generally reliable from around 6 weeks after exposure.
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C: generally reliable from around 6–12 weeks after exposure.
Syphilis: generally reliable from around 6–12 weeks after exposure.
Tested too early? A negative result before these windows have passed is reassuring but not conclusive. Your pharmacist can advise whether repeat testing is sensible based on your specific exposure and can arrange this for you.

If you have symptoms such as discharge, pain when urinating, or genital sores, testing can usually go ahead sooner, and you should not wait for these windows to pass. Speak to your pharmacist, who can advise on the most appropriate timing for you.

Common questions

Sexual health testing FAQs.

Is my appointment confidential?
Yes. Your appointment, samples, and results are kept confidential in line with GPhC standards. Nothing is shared with anyone else, including other family members, without your consent.
What is the difference between the Advanced Screen and Bloods Only?
The Advanced Screens test for six infections using two sample types: a blood sample for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis, plus a urine or swab sample for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea. The Bloods Only option uses a blood sample alone, so it covers HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis, but does not test for Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea.
I have no symptoms, should I still get tested?
Yes. Many common STIs, including Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, often cause no symptoms at all, particularly in the early stages. Regular testing is a sensible part of looking after your sexual health, especially after a new partner or unprotected sex.
What happens if my result is positive?
Your pharmacist will discuss your result with you in confidence and explain the next steps. Some infections can be treated by our prescribing pharmacist, while others require referral to a specialist sexual health clinic. We will support you through this process.
Do you test for other infections, such as herpes or HPV?
Our current screens cover Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis. If you have symptoms suggestive of another infection, speak to your pharmacist, who can advise on appropriate testing or referral.
