Rapid Blood Tests — Sunderland

Rapid blood tests.
Results in 10–30 minutes.

Nine private rapid blood tests available at Veritas Pharmacy, Chester Road. In-clinic results from your fingertip or arm sample, with same-day clinical review. No GP referral needed.

How rapid tests work

From sample to result in one appointment.

Rapid tests use a small blood sample — taken from a fingertip or arm vein — and process it using a point-of-care analyser at the pharmacy. Unlike standard lab panels, which are sent to an accredited laboratory overnight, rapid tests return a result while you wait.

Results are reviewed by our clinician during your appointment and confirmed to you verbally. A written result can be provided on request. For tests where further action is needed, your clinician will advise on next steps before you leave.

Same-day results. Most rapid tests return results within 10–30 minutes of sample collection. No waiting for a laboratory report.

HbA1c — Diabetes Screen

The HbA1c test provides a 2–3 month average of your blood glucose control. Used to diagnose diabetes and pre-diabetes, and to monitor treatment. Results in 10 minutes.

Ferritin — Iron Levels

Ferritin measures your iron stores — a key indicator of iron deficiency before anaemia develops. Common cause of fatigue, especially in women. Results in 10–20 minutes.

CRP — Inflammation Marker

C-reactive protein is a non-specific marker that flags acute inflammation in the body, commonly elevated during infection or inflammatory conditions. Results in 10–20 minutes.

hs-CRP — Heart Risk Screen

High-sensitivity CRP measures chronic low-grade inflammation associated with cardiovascular disease risk. A more sensitive marker than standard CRP. Results in 10–20 minutes.

Progesterone — Ovulation

Confirms whether you have ovulated. Typically tested on day 21 of your cycle. An important marker for women investigating fertility or cycle irregularities. Results in 10–20 minutes.

AMH — Ovarian Reserve

Anti-Müllerian Hormone provides a quantitative measure of your ovarian reserve — the number of egg-producing follicles remaining. Used in fertility assessment. Results in 20–30 minutes.

Beta hCG — Pregnancy / Fertility

Quantitative measurement of the hormone used to confirm pregnancy. Also used to monitor fertility treatment and detect ectopic pregnancy risk. Results in 10–20 minutes.

RF — Rheumatoid Factor

Screens for Rheumatoid Factor, an early step in identifying and managing inflammatory conditions including rheumatoid arthritis. Results in 10–20 minutes.

Common questions

Rapid blood test FAQs.

What is the difference between a rapid test and a lab blood test?
Rapid tests use a point-of-care analyser at the pharmacy and return results in 10–30 minutes. Standard lab tests require your sample to be sent to an accredited laboratory, with results typically returning in 24–72 hours. Rapid tests cover a focused range of key markers; lab panels can cover over 2,000 biomarkers. Both are reviewed by a clinician.
Do I need to fast before a rapid blood test?
Most rapid tests do not require fasting. The HbA1c test does not require fasting as it measures your average blood glucose over 2–3 months. If you are also having a cholesterol or fasting glucose test, fasting for 9–12 hours is recommended. We will confirm any requirements when you book.
How accurate are rapid blood tests?
Our point-of-care analysers are CE-marked and used in clinical settings. Results are reviewed by a GPhC-registered clinician. Where a confirmatory lab test is advisable, your clinician will tell you. Rapid tests are appropriate for screening and monitoring, not definitive diagnosis in isolation.
What happens if my result is abnormal?
Your clinician will explain the result, advise whether a follow-up lab test or GP referral is needed, and answer your questions before you leave. We can also arrange a pharmacist consultation on the same visit if appropriate.
Can I have more than one rapid test in one visit?
Yes. Multiple rapid tests can be combined in a single appointment where clinically appropriate. Book each test separately in Halaxy, or call us and we will arrange a combined slot.
